Rotting Christ: 30 Jahre im Geschäft? Boah, das ist doch der Wahnsinn! Wer hätte das am Anfang ihrer Karriere vermutet, dass diese Band so lange im Geschäft bleibt obendrein so bösartig heutzutage, wie fast in den Anfangstagen?! Klar, sie hatten auch ihre „kurze“ Dark-Gothic-Phase, dann eine Death Metal-Phase oder auch Black-Thrash, wie zahlreiche Bands des Genres um Mitte der 1990er Jahre bis Mitte der 20000er, aber wir wissen heute, dass sie seit einigen Jahren um so düsterer und härter zu Werke gehen, wie es sich für eine Band mit diesem Namen auch gehört.
Nun denn, das 30järhige Jubiläum feiert die Band nicht nur auf der im Herbst kommenden Tour mit WATAIN, sondern auch mit einer 5-Disc-Edition.
Diese fünf CDs enthalten etliche Songs (auch wenn mir nur ein paar auserwählte Tracks dieses Samplers zur Verfügung stehen), die bisher nicht so veröffentlicht worden sind. Selbstverständlich sind darauf zahlreiche, die ersten Demo- und Promosongs von 1989 zu finden, die auch heute noch billiger, unprofessioneller und eben „jugendlicher“ klingen (komplette Setlist der Box, siehe unten!). Aber jene zeigen den heutigen Fans auf woher Rotting Christ um Bandköpfe Sakis & Themis Tolis auch kommen und durch welche Bands sie Ende der 1980er Jahre beeinflusst als auch geprägt haben. Black Metal der alten Schule eben, was auf ihren ersten Alben auch deutlich vertreten war.
Heute wissen wir, dass sie schon längst ihren eigenen Sound gefunden haben, aber auch, dass sie weiterhin nicht zu den größeren Bands des Genres gehören – obwohl sie es durchaus verdient hätten. Ob jemand nun als relativ neuer Fan ein derartiges Jubiläumspackage vergangener Tage wirklich benötig, sein mal dahingestellt, aber Fans der ersten Stunde kommen an diesen Raritäten (die nun wohl keine mehr sind) nicht vorbei, sonst ist man eben kein Fan, logisch.
