Formed in 1981, Slayer assaulted the world with a new hybrid of metal and punk – heavier, faster and darker than the rest – and set a new standard, defining not only a genre, but an attitude. Throughout Slayer’s history, the band never faltered in unleashing their extreme and focused aural assault, and repudiating temptations, Slayer always chose to remain crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream.
Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, Hell Awaits is the second studio album by American thrash metal masters, Slayer. The crucial album was initially released on April 8th 1985, by Metal Blade Records, who, in honor of Hell Awaits’s 40th anniversary, will be unleashing 2 unique physical releases, along with a digital release for fans on May 15th 2026.
The 3LP box set includes a 60-page 12” book with photos and liner notes by J. Bennett; Hell Awaits (1-LP, Fire Splatter vinyl) mastered and restored from the original 1985 tapes by Patrick W. Engel; Live from Bochum 1985 (2-LP, 180g black vinyl) featuring 18 unreleased tracks; plus a replica Bochum ticket, tour laminate, German tour poster, slipmat, band posters, merch flyer, Satanic Wehrmacht newsletter, and two flyers.
